The play Cool Hand Luke that opened in September in the Aldwych theatre has announced its early closure on the 19th of November – it was booking until the 7th of January 2012.
Marc Warren (Hustle, Mad Dogs) has taken on the iconic role of Luke Jackson, played in the film version by Paul Newman. Luke is a war-veteran but also a member of a chain gang in a Florida prison. He is a rebel in the warden’s eyes and an absolute hero to his fellow inmates. Quickly christened Cool Hand Luke, Luke refuses to conform. He picks fights, tries to escape and bets he can eat 50 eggs in one sitting. He is the blueprint of the true original but will his struggles bring him what he is looking for?
The original story by Don Pearce has been set against the gospel songs of the South and adapted by Emma Reeves.
